Unlike the Abrahamic cults, Hinduism (Sanatan Dharma) has always been evolving with time, in wake of new truths discovered, new threats, new challenges, etc. It never claimed its religious books to be perfect, completely opposite to the Abrahamics, who believe that their systems are perfect, their religious books are flawless (sometimes, even literal word of God!), and there is no scope for any change or improvement (as they are already complete and perfect: the final words applicable and relevant to humans for all times to come, at all worlds we set foot on, in the future). The Abrahamics are not gonna change. They are like tall stiff trees, resisting the stormy winds, and still standing (for now). There is no scope for skepticism. Doubt means end of allegiance. Either you are in or out. No other case is possible.
However, Hindus have been changing and continuously evolving with time. We have to simultaneously put our feet (and even encouraged to) on two boats, and sail on the ever-flowing perennial river, changing its course with time, as new obstacles emerge in its path. It’s like walking on the razor’s edge. Difficult as it may appear at first, but that is only way we have survived till now, while countless other religions perished.
The issue currently is not that we have stopped evolving. There are plenty of intellectuals who constantly criticise Hinduism (sometimes with good intentions at their heart, sometimes with bad) thus helping us deal with the internal challenge: which is to change with time. The issue rather is; we have neglected dealing with the outside challenges. Partly because the human society (not just Hindu) has become extremely consumerist, focusing on the material success and short-term achievements, i.e. selfish. And partly because we have been deracinated. We are now disconnected with our roots. When that happens, one doesn’t feel the need to fix anything, apart from the problems that is within one’s family. As a result, the Abrahamics have been winning so far. However, there is a silver lining. I see burst of spirituality post Covid-era. People are unsatiated, their consciousness evolving. We will deal with outside problems too!😊
